UDF is a common file system used by optical media burning programs to store files on discs, so the actual UDF file extension (.UDF) might not be as prevalent. Instead, even though the program that does the burning will do so using the UDF standard, it most likely associates the file with itself by appending a different file extension to the end of the file name. Do some BIOS' and/or DVD drives have a problem booting from an installation DVD in an UDF file system rather than the standard ISO? Windows 7 DVD is in UDF. When I boot my computer with the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade DVD in the drive the boot gets to 'CD ROM Boot Priority.Boot Ready_' but does not proceed to 'Press any key to boot from CD'. I can hear the drive spinning. The boot order is correct: CD/DVD Drive is first. The DVD boots on 2 other computers (you get to the 'Press any key to boot from CD' message) - the DVD is good. The other computers have a single legacy PATA hard drive and legacy PATA DVD writers. The problem computer is an Asus P6T - i7-920 with 2 SATA HDDs and a SATA DVD, all in AHCI mode. I download the Windows 7 trial software from way back when. Never did get around to installing it. It is a 2+ GB download. Open Udf File Windows 7So I figured, there is a chance that the file system used in that DVD image, is going to bear some similarity to the Windows 7 DVD you have in your hand. Next step, was to find some kind of utility that can parse the file, and tell me what it is. Firefox 39 for windows 7. And I found one. The utility is 'disktype' and unfortunately, it runs in Linux/Unix environments. So the solution for me was easy. I booted my Linux LiveCD Knoppix 5.3.1, went into the Synaptic package manager, updated it (which updates the list of packages), and 'disktype' is available as a package.
